Meta has announced an expansion of its partnership with Broadcom, stating that they will jointly develop MTIA chips for multiple generations from now on. The agreement includes initiatives on a scale exceeding 1 GW, which Meta describes as 'the first phase of multi-gigawatt deployment.' Furthermore, they aim to expand to several gigawatts in the long term.
Broadcom plans to support Meta in a wide range of areas, including not only chip design but also advanced packaging and network construction. Broadcom's advanced Ethernet technology is expected to enable seamless, high-bandwidth network connectivity across Meta's rapidly growing AI computing cluster.
Ultimately, their goal is to build a system that supports real-time generation AI in apps used by billions of people, such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads, as well as 'personal superintelligence,' a super-intelligent AI optimized for individuals.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, who also served on Meta's board of directors, will step down to avoid conflicts of interest and will instead serve as an advisor. He is expected to continue advising Meta on its silicon roadmap and infrastructure investments even after leaving the board.
