The Swiss Army Knife is a folding knife that was created in Switzerland in 1891. It was originally called 'Offiziersmesser' (Officers' Knife), but came to be called the Swiss Army Knife because it was officially supplied to the Swiss Army.

Victorinox is a long-established manufacturer that produces over 10 million Swiss Army knives every year. The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is known for being equipped with a variety of tools such as a bottle opener, corkscrew, scissors, tweezers, nail file, magnifying glass, saw, Phillips screwdriver, and USB memory stick in addition to the knife, and is called a 'multi-tool' because it is so multifunctional.

Every multi-tool ever produced has always had a knife attached to it. However, Victorinox's newly developed multi-tool is the first to not have a knife since the company was founded in 1884.

According to The Guardian, a British daily newspaper, the knife-less multi-tool was developed due to the tightening of knife regulations. Victorinox CEO Karl Elsener said, 'In some markets, the knife gives the impression that the multi-tool is a weapon,' and that the knife-less multi-tool is a product aimed at cyclists and golfers.

Victorinox has had to deal with tougher regulations on carrying knives in the past. In particular, sales fell by 30% after the 2001 terrorist attacks, which led to stricter restrictions on carrying knives on airplanes. In 2016, Switzerland also discussed a regulation that would prohibit people from carrying knives with a blade longer than 5 cm. However, this proposal was ultimately rejected.

'We are concerned that global violence will lead to increased knife regulation,' Elsener said.
