Reuters reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter, that OpenAI plans to launch an AI-powered search service on May 13, 2024, in a bid to take on search giant Google.
The announcement date may be subject to change, but there has been no information about the change so far. If the announcement goes ahead as planned, the AI search that will rival Google Search will be released to the world just before Google's developer conference scheduled for May 14th.
While the specific announcement date is unknown, technology-focused business media The Information reported in February 2024 that OpenAI had begun developing search technology.
According to Bloomberg, the new search service is an extension for ChatGPT that will allow chatbots to search the Internet directly and cite sources in the output results, putting ChatGPT in direct competition with Google Search and AI search startup Perplexity .
