Android app development now possible with Apple's Swift programming language



Swift, a programming language created for developing applications for iOS, macOS, and other platforms, is now compatible with Android, and an application development kit for Android, Swift SDK for Android , has been released.

Swift is a language developed for Apple products, but it is also suitable for developing Windows applications.

Swift has established an organization called the 'Android Workgroup' and has been working on Android support for Swift for several months. As part of this effort, the company announced the release of a nightly preview version of the Swift SDK for Android on October 24, 2025.

The released Swift for Android SDK is available for anyone to install from the link below. It is included in the Windows installer and is also available as a separate download for use on Linux and macOS.

a guide to setting up your first native Swift code on an Android device, as well as a sample application to demonstrate how to use it.

The Android Workgroup is currently drafting a direction document for Android, clarifying priorities and leading community efforts. It also has a public project board to track the status of key initiatives. Anyone can join the Android Workgroup.
