Googlebooks are laptops made from premium materials such as aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber. They are not only extremely lightweight, combining a sleek design with durability, but they also support both Chrome extensions and Android apps, allowing users to access a wide range of applications and games.

Because Googlebooks are built on the same security architecture as ChromeOS, they implement Google Titan 's multi-layered defense architecture and on-device malware detection capabilities. As a result, Google claims that 'all your personal data is protected from day one with industry-leading security.'

The five models that will be available as launch models for Googlebooks are as follows:

◆ Acer Googlebook 14

Of the five models announced, the only convertible notebook PC that can be used as both a notebook and a tablet is the 'Acer Googlebook 14.' The starting price is $899 (approximately 142,200 yen).

◆

ASUS Googlebook 14

The ASUS Googlebook 14 is a notebook PC characterized by its lightweight design, weighing only 2.2 pounds (approximately 1 kg). The selling price starts at $1299 (approximately 205,600 yen).

◆

Dell's 'XPS Googlebook' is a notebook PC that weighs just 2.2 pounds while offering up to 18 hours of battery life. It features a 13.4-inch 2.5K resolution touchscreen and is priced from $999 (approximately 158,100 yen).

◆ Lenovo Googlebook 15

The largest laptop announced this time, featuring a 15-inch display, is the 'Lenovo Googlebook 15.' It will be sold starting at $1099 (approximately 174,000 yen).

At launch, Googlebooks will offer a choice between Intel's

Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor. Both processors feature an advanced NPU with on-device AI processing capabilities exceeding 45 TOPS . Furthermore, models equipped with MediaTek's 'Dimensity CX C10 Max' will also be available. The Dimensity CX C10 Max is a 3nm process SoC with an 8-core CPU, an 11-core GPU, and MediaTek's 8th generation NPU. The NPU is the MediaTek NPU 890, capable of delivering up to 55 TOPS of performance. All models come standard with 16GB of memory, and some models can be expanded up to 32GB.

It features a 'Magic Pointer' function that allows you to issue commands to Gemini on elements on your PC, making it easy to launch Gemini and issue any request simply by moving the cursor.

Additionally, the long, thin LED bar on the top panel, called 'Glowbar,' lights up to indicate that Gemini is operating and to show the battery status.

Googlebooks will be priced from $899 (approximately 142,200 yen) and will come with 5TB of cloud storage, 12 months of Google AI Pro which offers relaxed usage restrictions on Gemini, and licenses for YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop for 3 months. Samir Samat, president of the Android ecosystem at Google, told technology media outlet Tom's Guide, 'Above all, we want Android users to feel like they have a laptop that's just as premium, beautiful, and high-performance as their high-end smartphone. We want Gemini to not only be able to retrieve information, but also to be able to take some kind of action on Googlebooks. What we really aimed for was to make Googlebooks accessible to people. Googlebooks are truly premium hardware and offer a software experience that works very well with Android smartphones. If you're a premium Android user, Googlebooks are definitely the right choice, and you'll appreciate their excellence from the moment you start using them.'

Tom's Hardware shared his impressions of using Googlebooks, stating, 'It's designed with tight integration with existing Android smartphones in mind. In other words, once you log in and set up the laptop for the first time, everything—files, photos, apps, emails, saved passwords, etc.—will appear in the same place as on your smartphone, and any changes you make will be reflected on your smartphone. This concept is very similar to Mac, and you could say it's the Android version of it. Despite numerous attempts, Android has not been able to achieve such tight integration with Microsoft's Windows.' He further described Googlebooks as 'a simple yet nearly full-featured desktop OS aimed at a user base that is moving beyond Chromebook users.'

Technology media outlet TechRadar commented on the Googlebook, stating, 'While it's a hybrid platform (Android and ChromeOS), it doesn't feel like a mobile OS in the skin of a desktop PC at all. It has features like customizable widgets that can be resized and moved with a two-finger click on the trackpad, and access to Android apps, but it also has desktop-level apps and services (online and offline access to Canva, Netflix, and Adobe apps), a dock, and a full file system.' They added, 'The Googlebook may be the start of a big change.' Samat also reportedly told TechRadar, 'The MacBook Neo is great, but users will realize the limits of its performance,' and 'We wanted to start with a premium product first.'

Meanwhile, 9to5Google reported, 'When I used the Googlebook, I felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity. And I quickly realized that it was based on Android. I feel that this similarity justifies the existence of the Googlebook and will ultimately contribute greatly to its sales promotion.' 'I thought the Googlebook OS wouldn't be that different from ChromeOS. The desktop and app dock look similar, but the changes made by building it on Android make a big difference.' 'Thanks to the shared design and user experience with Android, I was able to get the hang of the Googlebook OS right away. The differences are small compared to ChromeOS, but they feel natural from the first time you use it.' They pointed out that the Googlebook OS, which integrates ChromeOS and Android, is more familiar to Android users.

Trusted Reviews reported on Googlebooks, stating, 'While it's an entirely new OS, the UI is familiar and similar to Windows. However, it incorporates Android's unique features, especially Gemini, such as desktop widgets and the cursor (Magic Pointer).' They added, 'Android fans may finally be getting something like a MacBook. It offers the ability to work on both smartphones and desktops with Apple-level refinement and OS-level integration. We can't wait to try it out long-term.'
