Microsoft has reported that an update rolled out for Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 may cause problems with USB audio devices, potentially resulting in no sound output or unresponsive volume control. Sound settings may become unresponsive, and the Device Manager may display an error message stating, 'This device cannot start.'
Microsoft states, 'Some devices may work fine in a standard stereo configuration, but may encounter errors when using multi-channel audio features such as 8-channel or 3-channel audio modes. Some customers have reported that switching to 2-channel mode can restore audio in such cases.'

Microsoft pointed out that only devices classified as 'USB Audio Class 1.0' will be affected and stated that they are working on a solution.
The technology media outlet Windows Latest shared information that 'there are also reports that the microphone has stopped working.'
The September 2026 Windows Update fixed nearly 1,000 vulnerabilities, but so far, problems have been reported such as 'File Explorer crashing and the screen going black,' 'issues with apps like Claude Cowork that depend on Linux-based virtual machines,' and 'GPU issues on some AMD systems.'
Today is the monthly 'Windows Update' day, fixing 966 vulnerabilities and 2 zero-day vulnerabilities, and implementing new features such as changing the taskbar position - GIGAZINE
