YouTube Shorts, which debuted in 2021, are now used by many users. However, short videos have drawbacks, such as the inability to change the playback speed like regular videos, and the fact that icons for likes, dislikes, and comments are displayed as overlays that overlap the video.
The latest YouTube Shorts update includes a new feature based on user feedback. Normally, short videos have various icons overlaid on the right side, overlapping part of the video. With the new update, you can temporarily hide the overlay elements by selecting 'Clear screen' from the menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
Additionally, while it was previously not possible to change the playback speed of short videos, this update will allow you to double the playback speed. To watch at double speed, pull down on the screen while watching.
This doubles the playback speed. Apparently, the ability to adjust the playback speed was one of the most requested features from the YouTube Shorts community.
Additionally, a heart icon has been introduced to replace the previous like icon. YouTube stated that this change 'will allow viewers to express their emotions in a more meaningful way when a video truly resonates with them.'
The dislike icon has been removed, and instead, users can now select 'Not Interested' and 'Don't recommend this channel' from the menu icon. These options will allow users to have more granular control over the content they see.
This update will be rolled out gradually, and it may take some time before it becomes available to all users.
