Apple's new '12-month monthly subscription' introduced to the App Store allows users to pay monthly, even though the contract period is 12 months. This means users don't have to pay for 12 months in a lump sum, but can pay monthly. Users can also cancel their subscription at any time during the 12 months. If canceled midway, automatic renewal will stop once payment for the contract period is completed.

Users can easily check the 'completed payments' and 'remaining payments' for their subscriptions in their Apple account. Apple sends emails and, if opted in, push notifications before the renewal date to remind users about their next purchase.

Furthermore, developers can now set up a '12-month monthly subscription' in App Store Connect and test it with Xcode. Starting with iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, macOS Tahoe 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and visionOS 26.5, scheduled for release in May 2026, the '12-month monthly subscription' will be available worldwide, excluding the United States and Singapore, for users of devices running iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 or later.

The article does not explain why the '12-month contract with monthly payments' is not available in the United States and Singapore. Apple-related media outlet 9to5Mac has requested a comment from Apple, but has not received a response as of the time of writing.
