According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple plans to allow users to freely choose which AI chatbots to integrate with Siri in iOS 27 , which is scheduled to be released around the fall of 2026.

According to information obtained exclusively by reporter Gurman, Apple plans to enable third-party AI chatbots downloadable from the App Store to integrate with Siri. This will reportedly allow users to get answers from chatbots such as Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude via Siri.
As of the time of writing, Siri can integrate with OpenAI's ChatGPT , and this will also become possible with Gemini, Claude, and other similar applications.
This system, called 'Extensions,' will allow Siri on iPhones, iPads, and Macs to connect with any AI chatbot available on the App Store, and it will enable users to freely switch which AI chatbot they want to connect with.
This is expected to support a standalone app for Apple's AI-enhanced Siri, which is reportedly under development. This new Siri is said to have the ability to perform actions on behalf of the user across multiple apps.
Apple provides a Foundation Model , an AI model that operates entirely within the device. While this Foundation Model and Extensions are completely separate entities, it has been reported that Apple will be able to use the answers and inference information obtained from Gemini to train smaller, less expensive models, suggesting that they will be distilling Gemini to enhance the Foundation Model.
