'Yoshinoya's Oil Soba' has appeared, so I have checked what it tastes like

Yoshinoya's new menu item, the ' Beef Bowl and Abura Soba Set ,' was released on March 12, 2026. Abura Soba is a new noodle dish, featuring thick, chewy noodles with added back fat and lard, and a rich, flavorful sauce made with garlic, soy sauce, and pepper. Despite being a new menu item, it's not sold separately, but only as a set with the beef bowl. Questions like, 'Is it a set because it pairs well with the beef bowl?' and 'Is it a small portion when sold separately?' arose, so we decided to try it out and see for ourselves to see how it tasted and how filling it was.

Arrived at Yoshinoya.

The Abura Soba set is being promoted as 'Another dish to go with your beef bowl!!'

I entered the restaurant and ordered using the tablet on the table. Abura soba comes in two sizes, 'mini' and 'regular size,' and gyudon comes in six sizes, 'small,' 'regular,' 'atama no omori,' 'large,' 'extra large,' and 'super extra large,' and you can freely combine them. This time I ordered both in regular size. The total cost was 950 yen including tax.

The beef bowl and oil soba set was brought to me about 8 minutes after ordering.

It also came with vinegar and chili oil.

This is Yoshinoya's Abura Soba. The noodles are topped with nori seaweed, green onions, and bamboo shoots.

The sauce was sunk under the noodles, and the noodles were covered with plenty of back fat.

Mix thoroughly to coat thoroughly with the sauce.

When I tried it, the noodles were thick, warm, and chewy. They were mixed with not only back fat but also lard, making them very oily. The sauce was made with garlic, soy sauce, and pepper, resulting in a rich, flavorful abura soba. However, considering how much back fat there was, the pork aroma was a little weak. The garlic was there, but not so much that it smelled like garlic, so it didn't pack much of a punch considering how oily it was.

Adding vinegar and chili oil will give it a refreshing taste.

Overall, the basics of abura soba, 'greasy, chewy thick noodles,' are covered, but it doesn't have any distinctive taste, and the impression is that it ends up being 'greasy noodles.' The accompanying editorial staff commented, 'It doesn't have any particular characteristics, but it can be said to be a taste that anyone can eat and be satisfied with,' and 'I would like a topping that adds a punch, like the 'Garlic Masimasi Sauce' of

the Gyudama Stamina Mazesoba that appeared in the summer of 2025.'

A regular-sized abura soba has 549 kcal, which is lower than a regular-sized beef bowl with 633 kcal. Because abura soba alone isn't enough to satisfy, it's nice that it comes as a set with a beef bowl. The total calories of a regular-sized abura soba and a regular-sized beef bowl is 1,182 kcal, which is higher than the 1,159 kcal of a super-large beef bowl. Even when eaten alternately, there was no sense that 'the abura soba and the beef bowl enhance each other,' and they felt like separate dishes.

By the way, Yoshinoya's beef bowl is also available as a frozen food, and a set of 10 bags can be purchased on Amazon.co.jp for 4,860 yen (tax included) (486 yen per serving).
