The Washington Post, a leading American daily newspaper owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, received testimony from a colleague of a former DOGE employee who alleged that the employee stole Americans' social security data and stored it on a USB drive.
According to the report, the anonymous whistleblower, a former software engineer at DOGE, said the former DOGE employee 'possessed two highly restricted databases of information on U.S. citizens.' The whistleblower also noted that 'the former DOGE employee said he intended to use the stolen information at a new company after leaving DOGE.'
The former DOGE employee worked for the Social Security Administration in 2025 and, when he moved to a government contractor in October, revealed to his colleagues that he had obtained two databases called 'Numident' and 'Master Death File.'
According to the former DOGE official, the two databases contain records of more than 500 million Americans, both living and dead, which may include Social Security numbers, place of birth, date of birth, citizenship, race and ethnicity, and parents' names.

The former DOGE employee also allegedly claimed to have had 'god-level' unlimited access to the Social Security Administration during his time at DOGE.
In response to the report, a spokesperson for the Social Security Administration, which is under DOGE's jurisdiction, denied the allegations that former employees stole personal information from Americans. The spokesperson said The Washington Post is 'desperate for clicks and is hell-bent on publishing fake news to scare seniors.'
