In June 2025, a shareholder filed a class action lawsuit against Apple for alleged securities fraud. The lawsuit arose from Apple's delayed release of the enhanced Siri version until 2026 , despite the company announcing that it would also use Apple Intelligence , its personal AI, at WWDC24 in June 2024.

Apple was also sued for charging third-party app developers a 30% sales commission, and the lawsuit ultimately resulted in Apple being ordered to allow apps to ' insert links to external payment systems .'

However, Apple continued to charge a 27% fee on external payments even after the order was issued, which is considered a violation of the court order.

A shareholder filed a class action lawsuit against Apple, alleging that Apple's response 'failed to adequately explain its compliance with the injunction' and 'failed to adequately explain the risks to investors.'

On February 26th local time, Apple asked the court to dismiss the lawsuits related to the delay in the release of the AI-enhanced version of Siri and the lawsuit alleging that Apple misrepresented its compliance with an injunction regarding app sales commissions.

In a filing in federal court in San Jose, California, Apple argued that 'there is no evidence to suggest that Apple realized that incorporating the two advanced AI features into Siri would take longer than anticipated when it described AI at its June 2024 conference (WWDC24).'

Apple also explained that it does not guarantee that its procedures for complying with the injunction, which requires it to allow app users to make payments directly to developers, are completely foolproof.

'It is no secret that Apple faced stock price fluctuations and challenges in 2025, as did many large companies. However, Plaintiffs' assertion that the temporary decline in stock price was caused by securities fraud is a huge and unfounded leap,' the lawsuit said.

The two class action lawsuits target shareholders who suffered losses on Apple stock between May 3, 2024 and May 1, 2025, and the losses could amount to hundreds of billions of dollars.

The plaintiffs' legal team is led by the National Pension Service, the world's third-largest pension fund with about $1 trillion in assets under management, which did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.
