President Donald Trump has demanded that Netflix immediately remove Susan Rice from its board of directors, threatening 'consequences' if the company fails to comply. This demand follows Rice's comments on a podcast that 'companies that 'bow to President Trump' will be held accountable by the Democratic Party in the future.' Netflix is currently in the midst of a bidding war with Paramount Skydance over the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, and President Trump's intervention could have a major impact on the outcome of this mega-merger deal.

Rice served as Ambassador to the United Nations and National Security Advisor in the Obama administration, and as director of the Domestic Policy Council in the Biden administration. She also served on the Netflix board of directors from 2018 to 2020, a position she will reappoint in 2023.

Speaking on former federal prosecutor Preet Bharara's show, Rice mentioned the 'accountability agenda' that Democrats will have if they regain power. Rice said, 'Companies that evaded regulations, fired employees, or violated principles under the Trump administration would be wrong to assume they will be able to do so in the future,' and warned that media outlets and companies that complied with President Trump's demands for loyalty should preserve documents and prepare for subpoenas.

In response, President Trump posted on his social media account, Truth Social, that Rice was a 'racist' and a 'politician' and that she lacked talent and skills.

Netflix to pay Warner Bros. all in cash to thwart Paramount's hostile takeover - GIGAZINE

Initially, President Trump stated that Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery was a matter for the Department of Justice to handle, and that he should not intervene. However, at the time of writing, he has reversed his stance, apparently due to strong pressure from right-wing activist Laura Loomer, who claims the acquisition is 'weaponized political retaliation by the Democratic Party.'

The Department of Justice is currently reviewing whether Netflix's acquisition would harm competition. Meanwhile, rival Paramount Skydance has proposed a $108 billion hostile takeover , which has already passed the Department of Justice review.

Loomer argues that if Netflix were to go through with the acquisition, it would give former President Barack Obama and his wife enormous influence, creating a monopoly that would allow them to spread messages favorable to the Democratic Party through the streaming service, and she is urging President Trump to block the acquisition.

Netflix has not commented on Trump's requests for his dismissal or his interference in the acquisition as of the time of writing. Trump's remarks mark an unprecedented move by the president to directly intervene in the composition of a private company's board of directors, sending ripples throughout the media industry.
