Matthew Letera, a Best Buy employee in Palm Beach Gardens , Florida, was accused of using a store manager's cash register code to purchase MacBooks at 99% off. According to police, the Best Buy where Letera worked suffered losses of more than $118,000 (approximately 18 million yen).

The Best Buy store manager noticed an anomaly in sales on December 18, 2024. Upon further investigation, he discovered that an employee, Lettera, had used the manager's register code 149 times.
According to investigators, Lettera began committing this fraud on March 1, 2024, and continued to do so until December 13, 2024. Lettera made 97 fraudulent discount purchases, causing the store a total of more than $81,000 (approximately 12 million yen). Lettera also made 52 discount purchases for other people, resulting in a total loss of $36,000 (approximately 5.5 million yen).
The owner of PayMore, a pawn shop in Greenacres, turned over documents and fingerprints related to his transactions with Lettera to police.

Lettera has also been charged with organized fraud under Florida law.
