The incident occurred in Los Angeles, California, where Waymo first launched its self-driving taxi service.
According to reports, a woman was arranging a car for her daughter when she noticed a man in the trunk. The woman turned on the camera and asked, 'Why is he in the trunk?' The man replied, 'I don't know. I can't get out.'
The man said, 'They locked me in here,' suggesting someone forced him into the trunk.
The man was then questioned by police, and the woman reportedly contacted a Waymo representative using the vehicle's call system.
It is unclear how the man got into the vehicle. The Los Angeles Police Department did not say whether the man had been arrested, but confirmed that the incident is under investigation.
A Waymo representative said, 'We are committed to protecting the safety of our passengers and earning the trust of the communities in which we operate. This incident is unacceptable and we are actively working to address this issue.'
