The ASRS v1-1 asks respondents to answer the following six questions with either 'never,' 'rarely,' 'sometimes,' 'frequently,' or 'very frequently.'

1. How often have you overcome difficult obstacles in your endeavors, only to find that you have difficulty finishing the task because you didn't put enough effort into it?
2. When doing a task that requires organization, how often do you have difficulty organizing your tasks?
3. How often do you forget an appointment or an errand that you have to run?
4. How often do you avoid or delay starting tasks that require careful thought?
5. When you have to sit for a long time, how often do you fidget or move your arms or legs?
6. How often do you feel overly active or compelled to do things?

If you check four or more of the gray boxes in the image below, you are likely experiencing symptoms of adult ADHD and further evaluation is required.

The ASRS v1-1 has a sensitivity of 69% and a specificity of 99.5% in the general population, meaning that it correctly identifies two-thirds of adult ADHD cases, but not the remaining one-third, and that 0.5% of people without ADHD are considered likely to have the condition.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, and symptoms often persist into adulthood. Research has shown that taking ADHD medication not only improves concentration in ADHD patients, but also reduces the risk of traffic accidents, suicide, and criminal behavior.
