'ShaderGlass' turns any game into an old TV screen for free

' ShaderGlass ' is an overlay that runs GPU shaders on Windows PCs, making the desktop and windows look like they're displayed on a CRT screen. It's useful when you're playing old games on your PC and find that they look too sharp and don't capture the right atmosphere.

You can see what kind of software ShaderGlass is in one shot by watching the movie below.

ShaderGlass can be downloaded as an installer from GitHub, and is also available for free on Steam.

This is what ShaderGlass looks like when you launch it. An overlay appears on the desktop, and the screen appears pixelated and curved, just like on a CRT screen.

ShaderGlass not only gives you a CRT-like display, but also lets you fine-tune the display by switching shaders. It includes a built-in library of over 1,200 shaders from the emulator

RetroArch .

For example, a Game Boy style shader looks like this.

'Technicolor' is a shader that recreates the

Technicolor filming technique used in American films of the 1930s.

Furthermore, you can customize the settings for each shader in detail.

Of course, you can also adjust the scan line and pixel coarseness.

Increasing the pixel size makes the image more grainy. Older games were designed to take into account the grainy pixels and the blurring that is characteristic of CRT displays, so recreating the CRT display can make the game even more appealing.

While ShaderGlass doesn't normally support capture using OBS, it can also record using OBS if you select a webcam, capture board, game window, or other direct input source. Below, ShaderGlass is used to create a CRT-like display of the Family Computer game 'Super Mario Bros.' being played on a Nintendo Switch. The left half of the screen is the processed footage, and the right half is the raw recording.
