X (formerly Twitter) is testing a design change that lets users like and repost posted links while viewing them.

Twitter (formerly known as X) is testing a UI change that will allow users to like, reply, or repost a post even while viewing the linked page.
X is changing how it handles links to try and keep you in the app | The Verge
On October 20, 2025, Nikita Beer, head of product at X, revealed on her account that the company is testing a change to the way links are handled in X posts. The change will allow users to like, reply to, or repost the original post while viewing the link. The test will start with the iOS version of the X app.
We're testing a new link experience, starting on iOS -- to make it easier for your followers to engage with your post while browsing links.

For creators, a common complaint is that posts with links tend to get lower reach. This is because the web browser covers the post and… pic.twitter.com/oWraLpPwji
In previous versions of X App, when you viewed a URL attached to a post, a web page would open. To take actions like liking, replying, or reposting the original post, you had to close the page and redisplay the original post. Because of this, users who viewed the post would forget to take actions like liking or replying to the original post, which was frustrating for creators, Beer said.
Therefore, X is testing a design change that would leave the Like, Reply, and Repost buttons at the bottom of the screen even when you jump to the linked page, as shown below.

When you scroll down the page, the various buttons at the bottom of the screen are hidden, so the user experience is not compromised.

X often hears complaints about posts containing links performing poorly. Regarding this, X's Elon Musk posted, 'X's recommendation system is evolving very rapidly. We aim to remove all heuristics within 4-6 weeks. Grok literally reads every post and watches every video (over 100 million per day) to match users with content that is most likely to interest them. This should address the issue for new users and smaller accounts - where you post a great post but no one sees it. We'll also be adding the ability to temporarily or permanently adjust your feed, just by asking Grok.'

The Verge pointed out that 'Moving from a rules-based algorithm to a system where AI understands the actual content of posts has been a clear goal for X for many years. These changes could potentially allow accounts with very small follower counts to expand their reach.'
