DJI's magnetically detachable compact action camera 'Osmo Nano' quick photo review

DJI, a manufacturer of drones and action cameras, has announced the Osmo Nano , a compact action camera. The camera features a modular design that allows the camera body to be detached with a magnet, and it's capable of shooting video at up to 4K resolution at 60fps. We were able to get a sneak peek at the Osmo Nano, so we decided to check out its appearance first.

The packaging for the OSMO Nano looks like this: This time, DJI sent me the 128GB Standard Combo.

When I opened it, I found the OSMO Nano itself and an inner box.

The OSMO Nano body comes separately in its own bag and is attached with a magnet.

I took the OSMO Nano out of the bag.

I removed the protective film. On the left is the multi-function Vision Dock, and on the right is the camera itself.

First, let's take a look at the camera itself. This is what it looks like from the front. The dimensions are 45mm high x 35mm wide x 30mm deep.

Top

There was a technical conformity mark on the bottom.

There is one button on the left side.

There is a connection terminal on the right side.

The actual weight was 64g.

The multi-function Vision Dock measures 50mm high x 40mm wide x 35mm deep. The image below shows the front, with the display taking up almost the entire surface. The display size is 2.0 inches, with a resolution of 556 x 314 pixels.

There is a connection terminal on the top.

Pressing the protrusions on the left and right will move the metal tabs on both sides of the connection terminal.

It is designed to fit into the camera's connection terminal.

I placed my camera on the multi-function Vision Dock. Just by bringing it close, it attached to the camera with magnetic force, and the interlocking claws ensured a firm connection that wouldn't come off even if I pulled it hard.

The bottom of the multi-functional Vision Dock, where attachments can be secured.

On the left side there is a protrusion to move the fixing claw and a button.

There is a protrusion and the DJI logo on the right side.

The part with the DJI logo is a cover, and when you open it, you'll find a USB-C port for connection and charging, and a microSD card slot.

When I weighed the camera and the multi-function Vision Dock together, it came in at 135g.

The inner box contained a quick start guide, a safety guarantee, a protective case for the camera, a magnetic clip mount called the 'Magnetic Hat Clip,' a USB-C cable, a magnetic neck mount called the 'Magnetic Strap,' and a suction cup mount called the 'Dual Direction Magnetic Ball Joint Adapter Mount.'

The protective case is attached to the camera body.

The connection terminals and fixed mount are left uncovered, so you can connect it to the multi-function Vision Dock with the cover on.

The Magnetic Hat Clip is a clip that connects the camera body to a magnet and a fixed mount. By attaching the clip to the brim of your hat, you can secure the camera to your head. It can also be used as a base to angle the camera as shown below.

The magnetic strap is a strap that connects to the camera body using a strong magnet and can be worn around the neck.

The magnetic force is so strong that it doesn't seem like it would come off easily.

By hanging the magnetic strap around your neck and securing it to your clothes, you can secure the camera to your chest as shown below. Since it's not just clamped by a magnet, but also hung from the strap around your neck, the camera is less likely to slip out of position on your clothes.

Magnetic hat clips also stick to magnets, so if you attach it to a magnetic strap like this, you can adjust the angle while keeping it attached to your chest.

The Dual Direction Magnetic Ball Joint Adapter Mount uses magnets to secure the camera in place and a ball joint for flexible movement. The base of the mount is a suction cup.

If the surface is smooth, you can stick it to the wall and secure it in place.

This time, I was also sent a separate accessory: a magnetic headband.

As the name suggests, this is a band that can secure a camera to your head. The mount is magnetic, so the camera is firmly attached. The part that touches your forehead is cushioned, so it won't hurt when you wear it.

This ND filter set is used to reduce the amount of light passing through the lens. It comes in a hard case.

This is what it looks like when you open the hard case.

There are three types of filters: the higher the number, the darker the filter and the more light it can reduce.

The hard case for this ND filter set also has space for storing a microSD card.

The bidirectional quick-release folding adapter mount is an accessory used to attach to Osmo Action series accessories.

The mount that can be attached to Osmo Action series accessories is foldable.

When actually attached to the camera it looks like this.
