Launched in 2009, Prime Invitees is a program that allows Amazon Prime members to invite non-Prime members to join them and share their membership benefits of free shipping and expedited delivery.

The program didn't include other perks like Prime Video, but many users still welcomed the system, which allowed them to share free and expedited shipping with people outside of their household.

However, around September 1, 2025, Amazon updated its support page to announce that it would discontinue Prime invitations on October 1, 2025. Affected users have also been notified by email.

The existing Amazon Family program will replace Prime Invitees. This program allows up to two family members living together in Japan, and up to one adult living together in the United States and other countries, plus up to four teenagers and four children living together who registered their accounts before April 7, 2025, to share many Prime membership benefits, including free shipping, expedited shipping, and Prime Video.

Unlike Prime Invitees, Amazon Family is limited to people who live together. Some people who have benefited from Prime Invitees havecommented , 'I've been sharing for 15 years, but it's over now.'

According to a Reuters survey , Amazon extended its Prime Day celebrations from two days to four days in 2025, but the number of new Prime members acquired during the same period in the United States remained sluggish, at 5.4 million, down about 116,000 from the previous year. Reuters pointed out that 'Amazon is facing competition from Walmart, which has strengthened its membership program by offering faster shipping and other benefits.'
