Microsoft announces 'Microsoft Security Copilot' aiming for 'a new era of security' using GPT-4

Microsoft has announced Microsoft Security Copilot , a security analysis tool that uses OpenAI's GPT-4. Microsoft Security Copilot is a tool for cybersecurity professionals that can detect cyberattacks, predict the next attack, check the security environment, and help create reports.

According to Microsoft, there are 1,287 password attacks every second worldwide, and fragmented tools and infrastructure are not enough to stop attackers. Attacks have increased by 67% over the five years since 2018, but the security industry does not have enough experts to deal with them, Microsoft said.
Microsoft Security Copilot is a tool that summarizes threat data while simplifying complexity and expanding the capabilities of security teams to identify malicious attacks. It has three main functions: incident response, threat hunting, and security report generation.
'Incident response' enables the detection of malicious behavior and threat signals that are difficult to detect using traditional methods, allowing for real-time monitoring of high-priority threats and predicting attackers' next moves.

Microsoft also claims that Microsoft Security Copilot not only handles threat response, but also has the skills to demonstrate expertise in responding to system outages and vulnerability management. Threat hunting is a feature that investigates an organization's environment, including whether it is susceptible to known vulnerabilities and exploits, and whether there are signs of a breach.

Additionally, Microsoft Security Copilot can generate security reports by simply clicking a button or entering data into prompts, creating PowerPoint slides outlining security measures, incidents, and attacks. Additionally, if security researchers request information on the latest vulnerabilities, Microsoft Security Copilot can aggregate information from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology vulnerability database, and Microsoft's own threat intelligence database.

Of course, there may be errors in the content presented by GPT-4, and Microsoft acknowledges that 'content generated by AI may contain errors.' However, Microsoft Security Copilot is a closed-loop learning system that continuously learns from users. By feeding this information back, it learns from past interactions and grows to provide more consistent, relevant, and useful answers.
'Microsoft Security Copilot combines domain- and task-specific data, context, and skills with advanced AI models to empower every defender and transform the productivity of security operations centers in every sense,' said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

'With Microsoft Security Copilot, we're building a future where every defender has the tools and technology they need to make the world a safer place,' said Charlie Bell, executive vice president, Microsoft Security.
'Cybersecurity professionals continue to be at a disadvantage, forced to fight an unfair battle against persistent and sophisticated attackers,' said Vas Jackal, corporate vice president of Microsoft Security. 'With Microsoft Security Copilot, we are shifting the balance of power in our favor. Microsoft Security Copilot is the first and only generative AI security product that enables security defenders to move at the speed and scale of AI.'
