Harvard Art Museums releases 32,000 works from the legendary art school 'Bauhaus,' which disappeared in just 14 years, for free

Despite only existing as an art school for 14 years, the German

Bauhaus produced buildings and furniture of exceptional functionality and design, exerting a major influence on the world of modern design and architecture. After being closed by the Nazis, many of the school's faculty and students emigrated to the United States, with its first principal, architect Walter Gropius , becoming a professor at Harvard University. On August 17, 2016, the Harvard Art Museums opened its valuable collection of Bauhaus architecture, furniture, photographs, paintings, and other materials to the public free of charge.
