According to The Wall Street Journal, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has asked China Mobile and China Telecom, two of the major telecommunications carriers, to review their networks to see if any non-Chinese products are being used and to draw up a schedule for their replacement.

The deadline is 2027, reflecting the government's desire to eliminate foreign products within three years.

In addition to friction with the United States, the reasons for the government's promotion of replacing Chinese products include the fact that Chinese chips are becoming more and more reliable in quality, making replacement a reality.

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, said the move would deal a major blow to Intel and AMD, which supply most of the core processors used in network equipment in China and around the world.
